8 years ago today Martin joined WR and started his recruitment journey…
Over the years, Martin has achieved much success and WR firsts. Initially in the Engineering team, he quickly established himself as a talented recruiter and went on to hire his own team of recruiters to lead, making him the youngest and least experienced Leader in WR. His team went from success to success, and Martin quickly established WR Manufacturing followed by creating WR Transport and Logistics and growing his team to 17 Recruiters.
2016 came around, WR moved in to their new HQ and WR needed Martin’s expertise to rejuvenate WR Health & Social Care, a team he developed over the next 2 years. Here Martin mentored Emma who went on to take over WR Healthcare allowing him to transfer back to his roots and manage WR Engineering & Manufacturing with some of his original team - including his first ever hire, who coincidentally joined the same day his son was born!
Here we ask Martin a few questions about his time so far at WR…
What has been your biggest success?
The people I have worked with throughout the years. There has been, and still is brilliant Recruiters here at WR. Because of the hard work they have put in, they have achieved a lot of success in recruitment which is very rewarding to see.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Probably with more grey hair!
The sky’s the limit. I’ve got a lot of exciting ideas to grow our offering, so watch this space.
What would be your advice for those thinking about a career in recruitment?
Recruitment has been amazing for me. Its allowed me to develop as a wide skills set and business acumen. I joined not long after University with no money & a lot of student debt & I now find myself in a fortunate position financially enabling me to give my two kids a great life and I’m back managing the best team in White Recruitment.
To have success in recruitment you have to work hard from the beginning. It’s so important to build strong recruiter foundations and relationships with clients and candidates. The first year is always the hardest, so you need to be resilient and push through the tougher days to reap the rewards later down the line.
It’s so worth it though.
What’s your favourite WR memory?
There has been a lot - too many to choose just one. Through incentives at White Recruitment I have been able to do some amazing things, such as attend the Brit Awards, track day at Land Rover, enjoy Michelin star food, days out at Wimbledon & luxury boat trips to the Isle of Wight. MNy proudest achievement was being awarded WR Employee of the Year, for my success leading the WR Health & Social Care division.
Happy 8 years Martin! Thank you for all your hard work over the years, you will always be a Whiteonian Legend - here’s to the next 8… and here’s a small reminder of Martin back in 2011…
